The 28th Annual Meeting of the Society for Evolutionary Studies, Japan
Message from the Chair
The 28th Annual Meeting of the Society for Evolutionary Studies, Japan will be held at Nagoya University for four days starting on August 19, 2026. Under the theme “Life Sciences Learned from Evolution: From Molecules and Genomes to Populations and Ecosystems,” this meeting is designed as an opportunity to revisit the multilayered scope of evolutionary biology and its interdisciplinary potential.
Evolutionary studies not only provide the foundation for understanding biological diversity but also serve as an integrative principle that connects all levels of life sciences—from molecular mechanisms to individuals, populations, and ecosystems. In addition to invited lectures, symposia, oral presentations, and poster sessions, the meeting will feature a wide range of programs, including poster presentations by high school students, public outreach lectures, and a summer school. Through these diverse activities, we aim to foster active discussion and exchange that transcend disciplinary boundaries and generations. We hope that this meeting will offer a valuable opportunity not only for researchers, but also for students, educators, and members of the general public to experience the appeal and forefront of evolutionary science. Childcare services will be available at the venue, allowing participants with children to attend with ease.
Nagoya, the host city, is conveniently located near the geographic center of Japan and is well known as a hub of both academic and industrial activity. This will be the first time that the annual meeting of the Society for Evolutionary Studies, Japan is held in Nagoya, providing an excellent opportunity to cultivate new interdisciplinary collaborations and joint research initiatives. On behalf of the organizing committee, I sincerely look forward to welcoming many of you to the meeting.
